7 Foods To Eat For Glowing Skin

MAKE YOUR SKIN LOOK BETTER THAN EVER

Experts say what you put in your belly can have a direct effect on your complexion. So next time you’re at the grocery store, make sure you add these seven foods to your cart. Your skin will thank you.

Seven foods to keep skin lively and glowing

Everyone knows eating healthy foods is good for your body, but did you know certain foods can also make your skin lively and give it a healthy glow?

Dr. Marina Peredo, a board-certified dermatologist and an associate clinical professor at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, says some of the most common items found in the grocery store can help you manage dry skin, reduce inflammation and get protection from ultraviolet rays. Here are seven foods you shouldn’t pass on next time you’re at the market.

Blackberry-Banana Smoothie The Trent

1. Blackberries
Blackberries are especially high in flavonoids, which have high levels of vitamin C. Eating blackberries on a daily basis, Peredo says, can help fight damage that occurs in our skin cells. The berry also contains vitamins that help balance oils in the skin — perfect for those who suffer from acne.

2. Flaxseed oil
“Flaxseed oil contains Omega-3 fatty acids, which have tremendous benefits for skin,” Peredo says. “It helps reduce inflammation, and it works as a skin hydrator.”

Flaxseed oil usually can be found at health food stores or in grocery aisles where vitamins and other dietary supplements are displayed.

Potatoes The Trent

3. Sweet potatoes
Sweet potatoes are a Thanksgiving Day staple for many families, but they’re also a great source of vitamin C, which helps skin look clearer and more youthful. Sweet potatoes also help skin resist environmental damage, Peredo says. Try to skip the marshmallows and brown sugar as toppings, however — sugar is bad for the skin, so avoid it for sweeter-looking skin.

4. Mangoes
Next time you’re whipping up a smoothie, remember to add mango. The tropical fruit boosts collagen production — resulting in smoother-looking skin. Mangoes also contain carotenoids, which can improve skin tone and color, giving a rosy glow to dull skin. Need ideas for a face cleanser? Mangoes help unclog pores and leave a fresh effect on the skin.

Almonds The Trent

5. Almonds
Almonds are a popular food for heart health, but they also are a great source of vitamin E, which helps nourish skin while protecting from the sun’s UV rays. Add some to your salad or grab a handful as a healthy daily snack.

6. Cocoa beans
Cocoa beans work to smooth out the skin’s texture while increasing blood flow to the skin.

“Cocoa has anti-aging agents that help prevent wrinkles and fine lines,” Peredo says.

If you need a chocolate fix, opt for dark chocolate over milk chocolate.

Avocados The Trent

7. Avocados
The avocado contains niacin and essential oils that keep skin looking and feeling supple.

“It restores dry skin and creates healthier skin, hair and nails.”
