8 Creative Tips On How To Start Conversation With Your Crush

Must read

You wouldn’t get nervous about ordering your meal in a restaurant, so why do you go all weak at the knees when you think about starting up a conversation with your crush? It’s the same thing really; you are only starting a conversation with a stranger. The difference is, of course, that you are hoping to get a lot more from a conversation with your crush, than a side of fries and, with so much more at stake, your nerves start to kick in. If you find taking to new people difficult and you look for tips on how to start a conversation with your crush, you’re not on your own, as lots of people have the same problem so, to make things a little easier, here are eight ways to get that talking started:

1. Find an excuse and say hi!One of the simplest tips on how to start a conversation with your crush is – find an excuse and say ‘hi’. Calm down, you’re not going to have to come right out with it and say that he’s the hunkiest guy on the block and you’ve been dreaming about him for months, try: ‘Hi, I haven’t seen you before, do you come here a lot?’ or something like that to get things started. All you need is an excuse to approach him in the first place and start the conversation with something simple, but, make sure that you tell him your name, so he remembers you the next time he sees you.

2. Get a friend to introduce you

Another helpful tip on how to start a conversation with your crush is – get some help from a friend. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of teamwork to start the ball rolling. If you have a mutual friend, then get an introduction that way. Once introduced, he will feel obligated to say a little more to you, than just ‘hello’, so make the most of the opportunity.

3. Try and keep the conversation going

Once you’ve got the introduction over with, don’t leave it there; there are many ways to start a conversation, but don’t forget about keeping the conversation going and ask some questions. Asking for help or advice is always a good move, as most people are always willing to help someone out. If you’re in a bar or a restaurant, you could ask what’s good on the menu or if you’re at work, you could ask for some help with something. Just be sure not to ask anything that will bring the conversation to a close, like ‘where is the bathroom’ or when you get back, he’ll be gone!

4. Give him some compliments

Hopefully now, the ice has been broken, so it’s time to send some subtle messages. The first and easiest way to give him the first signs that you are interested is by way of a compliment. Tell him you like his shirt or jacket, or comment on his lovely eyes. A compliment is non-threatening and everyone likes to receive them, so giving one should start to make things a little less awkward.

5. Avoid questions that can be answered with a simple ‘YES’ or ‘NO’

Avoid questions that can be answered with a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’, as these literally put a full stop on the conversation. For example, a question such as ‘what did you like about the movie?’ begs an answer that may lead on to further discussion areas, whereas ‘did you like the movie?’ could be answered with a simple ‘yes’.

6. How to start a conversation? Find some common ground

Delve, dig, probe and find something that you have in common with your crush, as fast as you can! The sooner that you can start talking about a shared interest, the sooner he will see some compatibility here. A band, hobbies, sports, movies, TV shows, the list of potential common ground is endless, you’ve just got to touch on one and you have a conversation on your hands. ;)

7. A small portion of flirting

Send the right messages with your body language and watch out for his body language too. Look him in the eye, when you talk, turn on the charm, smile…and a light touch on the shoulder now and then will let him know your intentions. Watch for his body language too, though, if he steps back when you touch him or he is fidgeting and not paying attention, then sadly he may not be interested.

8. Don’t forget the close

Now you’ve gone to all this trouble, don’t let it end here! Make sure that you get his name and possibly even his number, before he leaves and, if things have really gone well, suggest meeting some other time. If you don’t ask, you don’t get!
