Nigerian Airforce Launches Strikes On New Boko Haram Camp In Northern Borno

Must read

The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, said it has demolished a new camp site supposedly belong to Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram, situated between Malam Fatori and Kangarwa in the north of Borno State.

NAF have described in details, on Tuesday , August 30, 2016, how it responded to an intelligence report and carried overnight operations to displace Boko Haram members that had survived a similar Mi-17 helicopter attack on August 20 and were said to have congregated at a new location.

In a statement, e-mailed to The Trent, signed by Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, spokesperson of the Nigerian Air Force, it is revealed that Boko Haram terrorists had set up a new camp where they converged.

The revelation, he said, resulted into a series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, ISR, missions that also resulted in their latest attack.

“The air assault is expected to further degrade the capability of the insurgents while fostering the creation of the necessary enablement for own ground troops to operate,” Famuyiwa said.

The Nigerian Air Force has also repelled an attack by the insurgent group on troops of 152 Battalion, who were fighting patrol at Ala Lumshe.

The insurgent group had already started attacking the troops when the NAF group were called in to salvage the situation.

“The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, during a night operation conducted yesterday, successfully destroyed a new Boko Haram terrorist camp located between Malam Fatori and Kangarwa in Northern Borno,” the statement said.

“The new camp is about 4-6km away from the BHT location attacked earlier on 20 August 2016 by NAF Mi-17 helicopter within the same vicinity in a similar night operation that led to the death of about 300 insurgents. The post-strike Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) mission had revealed that surviving BHTs converged at the new location.

“The information was later confirmed to be true by series of follow-up Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions that led to the latest strike. Recall that the general area around Malam Fatori and Kangarwa is infested with BHTs hence the need to clear the remnants of BHT in the area.

“The air assault is therefore expected to further degrade the capability of the insurgents while fostering the creation of the necessary enablement for own ground troops to operate.

“Meanwhile, NAF Alpha Jets have helped to repel an attack by BHTs on troops of 153 Battalion who were on fighting patrol at Ala Lumshe.

“The troops, on Saturday 27 August 2016, had come under attack from BHTs about 4km south of Marte when the Alpha Jets were called-in to dislodge the insurgents,” the statement ended.
