If you thought your Murphy bed was a smart space-saver, wait until you see what MIT has been developing.

CityHome, a research project led by Kent Larson and Hasier Larrea, is a floor-to-ceiling 200 square-foot module that’s engineered to transform into furniture, exercise apparatuses, entertainment systems, lights, storage and office equipment, according to the MIT Media Lab. Even better, all you have to do is lift your hand—CityHome has motion sensors—to tell it, for example, to eject a dining room table.

Currently a prototype, the technology is designed to make a tiny apartment feel two to three times that size, TechCrunch reports.

The only issue: will buying CityHome be more expensive than simply renting a bigger apartment? The next closest thing is on the market for $1 million.
