Bauchi Blast: Death Toll Rises To 17

Must read

The number of deaths recorded in the bomb blasts in Azare town in Bauchi state on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 has increased to 17, according to an eye witness who spoke to Leadership newspapers.

The witness who spoke anonymously said he saw fifteen corpses littered around the scene of the explosion, with many others injured.

He said: “I was there last night when the bomb blasts occurred and I saw 15 corpses scattered all around. There are many others who are injured. I narrowly escaped from the place and I am not in the mood to talk now. The bomb blasts have destroyed several properties worth millions of Naira and there was pandemonium everywhere in the town.”

The Bauchi state police public relations officer, Haruna Mohammed has however debunked the claims, saying that only seven people have been confirmed dead as at Thursday, October 23, 2014 as two of the injured people died at the federal medical center, Azare.

He urged residents of the state to stay vigilant and help security agents with useful information, adding that the police will not relent but work harder to ensure that lives and property remain protected in the state.
