Years ago, when I used to run an interdenominational fellowship, a woman called me and wanted me to stop allowing women wear trousers to fellowship; she said she wouldn’t continue with us if I didn’t stop them. We had a lengthy discussion on the issue, reviewing the scriptures as well. She wasn’t convinced, and I too wasn’t bothered. She was born again, so she really didn’t have to be a member of my fellowship, after all there are several other good churches where ladies do not wear trousers.
Funny enough, that woman wears trousers to everywhere else! She just didn’t think that it should be worn to church. Ladies, who wear trousers to church, according to her, aren’t honouring God. To me, it’s hypocrisy. We are temples of the Holy Spirit. God resides in us! So if it won’t honour Him in church, I shouldn’t do it at all!
Paul said, “Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.” It’s easy to walk in love and live in peace when we stop trying to make everyone look like us and act like us. I’m comfortable in any church I attend because I appreciate the fact that we are all entitled to certain beliefs. As long as we teach the truth and don’t put stumbling blocks on the paths of unbelievers and weak brethren I’m fine.
