“Among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.” – Ephesians 2:3 NKJV
Before we got born again, we used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world, the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.
Now, 2 Corinthians 5:17 says that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. What old things have passed away? The old life; the old passions; the old habits and desires; the old way of doing things. Living in sin has passed away!
So why are we still living in sin and living like those still subject to the devil? Why are we still yielding to the desires of the flesh? Brothers and sisters, it ought not to be because we are new creations! This truth must dawn on us! I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Hallelujah!
