A couple were discovered dead in their apartment located at the new site area of Oba Ile town in the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State..
The deceased identified as Mr. Femi Oguntunwase and his wife, Modupe were found lifeless on the floor of their sitting room on Saturday, April 16, 2016.
A source in the town whose identity was not disclosed said the cause of the couple’s death is yet to be ascertained, adding that the husband was naked while his wife was in a T-shirt and a wrapper with a bottle of palm oil beside them.
According to a report by Punch, a resident of the area, who identified himself only as Seluwa, said the couple was seen in the morning of the day, adding that neighbours were surprised to find them dead in the afternoon.
She said, “We saw the husband in the morning, but in the afternoon, they were found dead.”
The source also added that a bowl of pap and some bean cake balls, popularly known as akara were also found beside the deceased, which suggested that they died after taking their breakfast.
The neighbours were said to have discovered palm oil inside the mouths of the deceased couple which also suggested that they must have had food poisoning and tried to take the oil to remedy the situation.
A neighbour privy to the matter said: “There was palm oil in their mouths. It may be when they were having stomach pain that they drank the palm oil. We also discovered that the death happened after their breakfast.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, April 21, 2016.
Joseph said that the corpses of the couple have been deposited at the Ondo State Specialists Hospital, Akure where an autopsy is expected to be conducted.
He said, “We got the report of the incident on Saturday and we are still investigating to get to the cause of the death. The bodies have been deposited at the hospital for autopsy; it is after the autopsy that we will know the next step to take.”
