Daily Meditations: Don’t Steal God’s Vengeance

Must read

One curious thing about the life of David is that you never read where  he took revenge on his enemies.

God used David to destroy His (God’s) enemies but whether it be Saul, Shimei, or Nabal, David restrained himself against his own enemies.

David knew that no one is as good at revenging as God, hence he said, “Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.”- Psalm 35:1.

David was no weakling, neither was he a coward, yet he restrained himself when he had Saul under his power, when Shimei was insulting him and when Nabal provoked him. Why? Because as he wrote in Psalm 75:7, “God is the judge”.

Are you one of those who go about settling scores with people?  Remember how upset your parents were when you hit your sibling even though your sibling hit you first? They always told you to report to them instead. Your parents’ ability to punish far exceeded yours and letting them handle the matter saved you from their wrath. But when you hit back they often forget about the offender and faced you.

God is our ultimate Parent. Vengeance belongs to Him. Don’t steal it. “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith The Lord”-Deuteronomy 32:35 and Romans 12:19.
