Diezani $115 Million: EFCC Arrests Former Akwa Ibom Governor

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday, May 9, 2016 confirmed the arrest of a former military administrator of Akwa Ibom State, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (Rtd), for collecting about N450 million from the N23.29 billion ($115m) poll funds, allegedly managed by former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Nkanga, who is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was arrested in Port Harcourt, according an EFCC source who leaked the information to the press.

A highly-placed source told the press, “A former Military Administrator of Akwa Ibom State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga( rtd) has been arrested by EFCC operatives for collecting a sum of N450,000,000 from the sleazy $115million deposited in Fidelity Bank by Alison-Madueke

“He was arrested in Port- Harcourt, Rivers State on Monday. Nkanga was alleged to have collected the money in two tranches, from a staff of Fidelity Bank in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State: Mr. Saint- Anthony Ejiowu.

”The first tranche of the money, a sum of N350,000,000 (Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Million Naira only) was collected on March 27, 2015 while the second tranche of N100,000,000 (One Hundred Million Naira only) was collected on March 31, 2015. Nkanga signed for the two tranches.

 “He is in the custody of the EFCC and would be charged to court soon.”
