EXCLUSIVE: IG Arase To Transfer Rivers Police Commissioner For Failing To Cover-up Murder By Amaechi’s Aide

Must read

If all goes as planned, the inspector general of the Nigeria Police Force, Mr. Solomon Arase would transfer the Rivers State commissioner of police, Musa Kimo, over his alleged inability to prevent the prosecution of accused murderer, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree at a Port Harcourt High Court.

Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, a known associate and special assistant to Nigeria’s minister for transportation, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, is being prosecuted for murdering a certain Smart Soberekon on the Saturday, April 11, 2015 during the general elections.

Upon his arrest and subsequent arraignment  before a Port Harcourt Magistrate court, desperate measures were set in motion by the Nigerian police hierarchy to frustrate and prevent the prosecution of the accused.

An inside source confirms to The Trent that two separate attempts had been made by the police high command, on the orders of the inspector general of police to withdraw the case. The first attempt was on the April 21, 2016 when the court was adjourned to rule on jurisdiction. The second attempt was on Wednesday, May 4, when the court was adjourned to receive the advice of the director of public prosecution in Rivers State.

In both instances applications were brought before the court on the orders of the inspector general of police to withdraw the matter. Both applications did not succeed, a human rights activist closely monitoring the case told our reporter.

The inspector general of police, it was reliably gathered, has been under pressure from top brass of the All Progressives Congress (APC), chief of whom is Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, Nigeria’s embattled minister of transportation who reports say was greatly enraged by the arrest and arraignment of his aide, Flag-Amachree, who was also the chairman of Asari Toru local government council of Rivers State, for the period Amaechi was governor of the state.

Mr. Flag-Amachree, widely regarded as the “chief thug” of Amaechi, is also tipped by his boss to take over the chairmanship of the APC in Rivers State from current chairman, Davies Ibiamu.

As a result of the “failure” of the Rivers State police boss, Musa Kimo, to frustrate the prosecution of Mr. Flag-Amachree, charged for murder, plans are said to have been concluded by the IGP to deploy him from Rivers.

It would be recalled that Mr. Kimo was on Saturday, March 12, 2016, severely lambasted as being compromised and incompetent, by Amaechi, during one of his pre-election campaign stops at Rhythm 93. 7FM’s. While speaking as a guest on a live interview programme on Viewpoint, Amaechi revealed his frustrations with the professionalism of the commissioner of police.

Our investigations, at the time, revealed that Amaechi’s outburst was as a result of his inability to get the state police commissioner to compromise his stand on his deployment of security during the March 19, 2016, court-ordered Rivers rerun elections.

Sources within security circles reveal that IGP Arase, who is due for retirement on June 21, 2016, is determined to redeploy CP Kimo before his retirement.

Meanwhile, Flag-Amachree, on Thursday May 5, 2016, took his plea before a Port Harcourt High Court, where he pleaded not guilty to a two count charge of conspiracy and murder. The matter, with charge number PHC/997/2016/CR has been adjourned to May 17, 2016 for bail application.
