Must read

As the ongoing bickering between the Nasarawa State People Democratic Party (PDP)-controlled  House of Assembly and the All Progressives Congress  (APC) has continued to degenerate as youths in both parties yesterday clashed in Obi Local Government Area, leading to the death of four persons while scores of others were severely injured.

According to an eyewitness account, violence broke out late on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 when the two supporters clashed following the arrival of a member of the PDP in state assembly, Sidi Bako, in the area.

Bako, who had participated actively in the impeachment saga of the state Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, was visiting his constituency for the first time in several months but his presence however created tension which led to the clash as the supporters in both parties had been on daggers-drawn.

“The fighting started when a group of supporters of a party resisted his presence in the area while the other group insisted and were celebrating his home coming. This led to the clash which claimed four lives,” said the source.

In his reaction to the crisis, the  state Police  Public Relations  Officer (PPRO), Ismaila Numan, said the situation had been brought under control even as he confirmed the incident.

He said the police had recovered four corpses while one was in critical condition.
