Sad Loss: General Ishaya Bamaiyi’s Sister, Granddaughter Murdered In Kebbi

Must read

The events that surrounded this year’s Sallah celebration are still unfolding themselves.

For the family of the retired Lt. Gen Ishaya Bamaiyi , things turned bitter as the news of the murder of his elder75-year old sister Mrs Saratu Bamaiyi, and her 12-year old granddaughter went viral.

It was learnt that the victims were battered and murdered with a pestle, after which the killers dragged them and abandoned them in a well.

Confirming this to journalists in Birnin Kebbi, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ishaku Bariu, disclosed that the tragedy took place between 3pm and 4pm on Thursday, October 02, 2014 at her residence at Zuru Center (ZC), Zuru , in Zuru Local Government of the state.

According to Daily Post reports, in a statement made by the Police Area Commander, Zuru Area Command, Mr Abdu Wada he disclosed that the area is currently under serious surveillance..

“We have beefed up security with foot, motorcycle and vehicle patrol. People are going about their lawful businesses as investigation into the unfortunate killing of Mama and her granddaughter continues,” he said.

During a sermon at the Government Reserved Area(GRA) praying ground, Zuru, prayed for peace and security and the peaceful rest of the soul of Mama, as she was fondly called, and her granddaughter as well as those killed in the current insurgency in the North-East.

“She and her granddaughter were murdered and then dragged into the well inside the house. I don’t think it was by the use of gun. They used a pestle to attack them.

“It appears not to be murder for robbery because she was having some money in her handbag, money from sales from her provision store outside the house.

“The bag containing the money was also dumped with the bodies inside the well. We also discovered wraps of money possibly for contribution in the house because she was a woman leader in the community. The unspecified amount of wrapped money was not touched.

“So that made us think that it was not robbery that led to that but probably assassination. But we are investigating the unfortunate incident,” Zuru said.
As at the time of this report, General Bamaiyi who was bereaved of his sister and grand daughter was out of town which automatically makes it difficult to get any information from him.
