Graduates To Stage Protest Against Buhari’s ‘Defunding Of NYSC’

Must read

Prospective corps members whose orientation service has been postponed due to President Muhammadu Buhari’s unwillingness to release funding for the 2016 Batch A stream 11 are gearing up for a protest march against the insensitivity of the federal government.

The prospective corps members who connected themselves online have decided to call it bluff with the federal government, noting that the postponed orientation course has altered their programme and even affected some who were seeking for jobs in some well-known organizations.

They said the Buhari’s government has no plan for the Nigerian graduates, describing it as a “planlessness” of the federal government.

Hence, they have called for a city wide protest aimed at grounding the federal capital territory, Abuja to drive home a message to the government of Buhari.

On the online platform, the converging point chosen is Unity Fountain, Abuja and they have invited all prospective corps members to join in the march against the “planless planlessness” of the Buhari’s government for the future of the Nigerian graduates.

A notice published on Nairaland reads in part: “Are you currently sitting idly at home due to the planless planlessness of the NYSC?

“If yes, join us tomorrow as we storm the street in a peaceful protest against the continuous delay by the scheme. Point of convergence: Unity Fountain, Abuja. Dress Code: White T-shirt and white tennis.

“If we fight, we may win, if we don’t, we have lost. Protesters should come along with their CUL, school ID or any other means of identification for security purpose”.

But the authorities of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have pleaded with the prospective corps members to bear with the scheme.

In a post in the NYSC website, the management dissuaded the corps members against any action that could paint the NYSC in bad light before the federal government.

“Dear prospective corps members, please be informed that NYSC management is working assiduously to ensure that the 2016 Batch ‘A’ stream 2 orientation is conducted as soon as possible.

“Kindly bear with us, as all inconveniences are highly regretted,” the NYSC statement read.
