Diversion Of Bailout Funds: Group Gives Gov Okorocha 60 Days To Pay Workers Salary Arrears

A group, under the aegis of Ndigbo Unity Forum, has accused Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State of diverting bailout funds meant for the payment of workers in the state.

The group, an Igbo socio-cultural group, said it was unfortunate for Okorocha to have received the bailout from the federal government under the guise of paying workers’ salaries but failed to do so.

In a statement signed by the forum’s president, Mr. Augustine Chukwudum, and made available to journalists in Enugu on Sunday, May 1, 2016, the group said it was giving the state governor 60 days to pay up all salary arrears and allowances it owed workers.

The group described Okorocha as being insensitive to the plight of workers, saying despite all the electioneering promises made to the people, Okorocha has failed to meet the needs of the workers in the state.

“We observe that the Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State notwithstanding bailout funds that runs into billions that he received from the federal government that he still owes workers in the state many months’ salaries,” the group said. “We demand that Okorocha should pay workers in Imo State their salary within sixty days.”

The group warned that the coalition of civil societies would soon mobilise for the mother of all demonstration in Imo, if the governor failed to heed to the advice.
