A man beheaded his mother then kicked her severed head across a road in an horrific scene that was witnessed by dozens of bystanders.

The body of the unnamed woman in her 60s, who was only wearing her underwear, was found on one side of the street in front of an apartment building in Long Island last night.

Her decapitated head was discovered on the opposite side of the road at 7.55pm.

Minutes later her son is believed to have committed suicide by jumping in front of a train near the street in New York, police said.

One witness said the murder scene was so ‘gruesome’ he thought it was a ‘Halloween hoax’.Others described the attack as something they would need therapy to recover from.

Jack Imperial, 41, saw the murder while travelling in a taxi and said his taxi driver was ‘sick’ at the sight.

Mr Imperial told New York Daily Times: ‘The body’s feet were at the curb, the shoulders were at the middle of the street.

It is unknown whether the woman was murdered in the street or the apartment.
