JUST IN: 5 Dead, 12 Injured In Bus Station Bomb Blast In Bauchi

A bomb blast at a bus station in Bauchi killed five people and left twelve other injured, police said Thursday, October 23, 2014, confirming overnight witness reports.

The blast which occurred at Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government was first reported by eyewitnesses who said that “the whole place was a mess.”

“We heard a huge blast at exactly 9:45 pm (2045 GMT)… We realised it had come from the bus station,” said Musa Babale, a resident of the town of Azare in Bauchi state where the explosion occurred.

Another resident said that security forces, soon after, surrounded the site of the explosion and bodies of the dead were being put in a van.

“We found the place cordoned off by soldiers and police,” said witness Mauzu Ibrahim. “From where I stood I saw bodies being put in a van.”

“At about 9:45 pm (2045 GMT Wednesday) there was a bomb blast at (a) motor park roundabout in Azare town,” police spokesman Mohammed Haruna said. “Five persons burnt beyond recognition were certified dead, while twelve others sustained various degrees of injury.”
