Buhari’s Chief Of Staff Tells Journalists To Tweet He Wasn’t On Suspension

Must read

Abba Kyari, chief of staff to Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, has dismissed reports that he was placed on suspension over his alleged involvement in mega-million corrupt deals in Aso Rock.

Some news platforms reported that Kyari had been placed on suspension over allegations that he was paid a N500 million bribe by MTN Nigeria to help the telecommunications giant reduce its fine from N1.04 trillion to N330 billion.

A protege of Buhari’s power-dealing nephew, Mamman Daura, told journalists on Friday, October 28, 2016 that he was on a two-weeks leave and ask them to tweet about his return to work.

Kyari, broke with his routine and stopped by at the press gallery of the council chamber while on his way to the president’s office.

“Are you going to tweet that I am back?” Kyari asked members of the press as he declined a request for an interview.

“I don’t talk to the press. You know my job doesn’t allow me talking,” he said.

When pressed to comment on reports that he was on suspension, he asked the journalists, “Can’t I go on leave?”

The Nigeria Communication Commission had fined MTN for failing to disconnect millions of  unregistered subscribers.

A letter in which Kyari wrote to the secret police, the police, and MTN Nigeria, demanding that the claims against him be investigated was leaked to the press.

There has been no official comment from the security agencies or Aso Rock on the allegations against the president’s chief of staff.
