Sierra Leone Enforces Lock-Down To Curb Ebola Spread

Must read

Sierra Leone, one of the West African countries facing the challenges of the current Ebola Virus pandemic starts a nationwide lock down from Friday, September 19, 2014 through Sunday in a bid to stop the epidemic that has sent thousands to their early graves.

This entails that for three days, no one is permitted to step out of his/her house to help volunteers go from one house to another sensitizing them about the deadly virus.

The nation’s officials declared that religious worships should be done in their various homes to ensure that all the residents of the country are duly guided.

According to the nation’s minister of information, Alhaji Alpha Kanu this is a good measure as it will enable them sort sick people and separate them from the healthy ones.

Contrarily, Doctors Without Borders (DWB) had a different view as they predicted that the measure wouldn’t help to solve the Ebola outbreak. They said compelled quarantines will rather make people hide cases of the virus which results to lack of access to treatment.

Furthermore, earlier this month, the officials of Sierra Leone have mapped out dates to provide adequate equipment and train the volunteers made up of young trained health workers, medical students and nurses.

They said about 7,000 volunteers will sensitize the people across Sierra Leone about how to know Ebola Cases and guard themselves during this period.
