Oil Spill From Shell Facilitiy Ignites Fire Outbreak In Bayelsa

Monday, April 20 2015, witnessed another fire outbreak in Kolo Creek-Rumuekpe trunk line in Bayelsa State about five kilometers from the manifold owned by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).

The facility, which is located at Edepie-Otuasega-Imiringi Road linking Ogbia Local Government Area to mainland Yenagoa, is SPDC owned. According to reports, an excavated ditch was found at the fire point.

A joint investigation has attributed the leak, which caused the Kolo Creek Manifold spill, as sabotage.

However a concerned stakeholder of the host community who wanted to remain anonymous has said that the leak was due to the negligence of the SPDC surveillance staff in the area and it was not an act of sabotage.
