A 22-year-old Justice Onyebuchi was arrested by the Abia State Police Command for his allegedly hiding a locally made short gun and two live cartridges in a big loaf of bread.
The suspect who hails from Amayi Umuokwu in Abia state is a carpenter by profession who resides in Owerri.
According to reports by Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Adamu, the suspect was arrested in an a commercial vehicle on August 10, 2014 by eagle-eyed policemen during a special operation at Umuikaa- Omoba Road in Isislangwa.
Upon interrogation the suspect revealed the bread was given to him by a friend who lives in Aba but when the said friend house was later invaded by the police he had fled.
However efforts are still made to arrest the fleeing accomplice while the suspect will soon be arraigned in the court for illegal possession of a gun.
In another development two young mothers, Chinyere Ihuoma, and Patience Mgbechi suspected to be child traffickers were arrested by the police on patrol along Umuokpara, Abia Tower on August 23, 2014 on their way to Mbaise in Imo State.
According to the police, Ihuoma was seen with two babies, a day old and six month old baby at the same time, which immediately attracted the attention of security operatives.
Upon interrogation, she claimed both babies belonged to her and her friend sitting next to her in the vehicle, and that they were coming from Port Harcourt to Mbaise to deliver them to one Nkechi Obilor.
One of the suspects, Mgbechi, 24, revealed that she was living in Port Harcourt when she became pregnant out of wedlock, but was advised by Ihuoma not to terminate it.
She said after delivery, they decided to go back to their village in Mbaise so that their family members could take care of them, denying any involvement in child trafficking .
