Police Uncover Baby Factory, Arrest Owner In Abia

Police officials of the Imo State Command have uncovered a baby factory and arrested the proprietor, Chief Emmanuel Eke, at Mbutu, Isiala Ngwa South local government area of Abia State.

The officials also rescued some young pregnant ladies, including a deaf and dumb identified as Miss Blessing Nwabeke, from the filthy baby factory.

Speaking to some newsmen in Owerri after the successful operation, the Police Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, said, “The pregnant deaf and dumb lady, who could not mention her age and address was however identified as Miss Blessing Nwabeke.”

Among the other pregnant women rescued from the factory were: 23-year-old Miss Nkasiobi Uchenna from Nkwuegwu Umuahia; 25-year-old Miss Oluchi Victor, from Isiala Ngwa, and 24-year-old Miss Ela David, from Isoko in Delta State.

According to Enwerem, the police uncovered the baby factory and child-trafficking syndicate, following a tip off from a credible source.

Enwerem said, “A pregnant 20-year-old Miss Ibuchi Okafor from Ihioma, Orlu local government area of Imo State, disappeared from their family home and after spending some time in an undisclosed place, she returned without the expected baby. This development generated a lot of curiosity in the family.”

The family suspected that their daughter must have sold her baby and reported the matter to the police who questioned the girl and discovered that she had a baby boy at the home of Chief Eke, who later sold the baby to an unknown buyer for N500,000.

“As a follow up, operatives of the Police Command stormed the home of Chief Emmanuel Eke where other pregnant ladies believed to be producing babies for sale were arrested,” added the police image maker.
