Rann IDP Bombing: Coalition Calls For Immediate And Independent Investigation

Must read

A pro-democracy coalition says only an immediate and independent investigation of the bombed Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, camp in Rann, Borno State could assure the international community of Nigeria’s sincere commitment to humanitarian causes.

Coalition in Defence of Nigerian Democracy and Constitution, CDNDC, also, tasks President Muhammadu Buhari to demonstrate statesmanship by visiting the affected camp and community without delay.

The group in an e-mailed statement by its co-convener, Ariyo-Dare Atoye warns on the global implications of bypassing investigation into the tragedy which has unfortunately claimed the lives of some foreign aide workers.

“We are calling for an immediate investigation into this tragedy in line with international standard, and it should be independent in nature to secure the confidence of our foreign partners.

“Our foreign partners operating in the IDP camps across the country must be assured that we are serious about protecting human lives and ensuring justice to the people.

“The President must equally demonstrates statesmanship by visiting the affected camp to empathize with the IDPs and also boost the morale of some injured person in the hospitals.

“Nigerians will not accept any form of excuse justifying why the President could not go to IDP camps in the Northeast to empathize with Nigerians. Not acceptable.

“The President must leave his comfort zone to stand for his people; if he could go to The Gambia to intervene in an external matter, we want to see him visiting Borno to rally the people against Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT).”

“We equally urge our Military to understand that asymmetric warfare against BHT requires more of ground strategy and assault; it should limit the use of aerial bombardment which is capable of wrecking havoc on innocent Nigerians.

“We sympathize with the families of the dead and pray that God will stand in the gap for them and heal the injured. It is very painful.”
