Robbers Attack Church During Service, Kill 2 Policemen And Cart Away Offering

OYO – A gang of armed robbers raided the Vine Branch Church on Queen Elizabeth Road in Ibadan, on Sunday, March 2, 2014 killing two policemen and making away with the offering bags.

The robbers allegedly posed as worshippers and hid in the midst of the congregation until the tithes and offering was collected. In the pandemonium that ensued, several church members are said to have sustained various injuries as they fled.

It was gathered that the church’s offering was usually taken away immediately after collection by bank officers and two policemen in a van.

The robbers were said to have attacked the bank officer inside the church, before also assailing the police men waiting in the van outside. They allegedly shot at the policemen, killing them and taking possession of their rifles.

The Police Public Relations Officer Oyo State Police Command, Olabisi Ilobanafor, reportedly confirmed the incident, and stated that one of the robbers had escaped with a gunshot wound.
