“Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.” Ephesians 5:4 NKJV
Something that is fitting is “suitable or appropriate under the circumstances; right or proper.” In other words, what’s not fitting is unsuitable, inappropriate, wrong and improper.
Being in the world and not being of the world automatically suggests that there are many things that the world does, which they consider to be right, but are wrong for us to do. You’ve got to understand that you cannot live your life by the standards of the world; that everyone is doing it in a particular way is not a reason for you to do same. Our lives ought to be regulated by the will of God, revealed through His word. We need to learn the ways of God and by guided by His Spirit.
We then need to ask ourselves if our actions, speech, relationships, interactions, beliefs, philosophies, etc are fitting for saints. Cheating cannot be fitting for saints; pride and arrogance, laziness, insubordination, fornication and adultery, irresponsibility, wife battering, molestation, violence, abuse, indecency, etc, are undoubtedly unfitting for saints. The grace to do what pleases God is sufficient for us all; decide today to do only what’s fitting, that God may be glorified. Amen.
