“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” So said best-selling author Wayne Dyer.
Particularly struck by this quote was photographer Anelia Loubser, who took the message to heart with her photo series “Alienation.”
If you take a close look at Loubser’s photos in the series, you might see something familiar in the alien-like forms because they’re actually human faces turned upside down.
“I want to invite people to change the way they look at things,” Loubser, who is based in South Africa, told TheBlaze in an email. “Not only art, but everything and everyone around us, even oneself, because there is beauty in everything it is just a matter of perspective.”
Loubser’s work recently started going viral after, from what she can tell, an art enthusiast saw her Behance portfolio and posted it to Distractify. In the last few days it has spread from there.
“The response has been overwhelming and I don’t think you can ever fully prepare yourself for it. I experience such a great feeling of gratitude that I really do want to respond to every message I receive, this has the capability to keep me up [until] 3 in the morning. I am very happy that people have been receiving Alienation with so much positivity and open mindedness,” Loubser said.
What’s so captivating about Loubser’s images?
“I think we as people are psychologically and intellectually compelled to solve the mystery,” the woman who has been snapping images professionally since 2009. “Our brain has the unique ability to fill in gaps to recognize faces even from just general key qualities. With portraits from Alienation we are instinctively challenged and we relish in the pleasure of solving the mystery.”
