Things Will Change Significantly By Next Month – President Jonathan On Terrorism

Must read

President Goodluck Jonathan assured Nigerians that the security challenge the nation has faced for years by Boko Haram will change for the better in the coming month.

The President made this promise on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the 66th National Executive Committee, NEC of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abuja.

President Jonathan admitted that the nation’s greatest challenge was insecurity as the Islamist extremist group has terrorised the Northern part of Nigeria since 2009.

He stressed that what obtains presently in Nigeria has gone beyond terror, but plans to secede where members of Boko Haram want to install their own leadership.

He however stated that things will change drastically by next month.

He said: “Nigeria is having an unfair share. Terror is a global problem, and Nigeria situation is going beyond terror. When terrorists think about holding ground, attempting to install leadership, it is no longer terrorism, it is almost like going into the line of succession. Between now and October, things will change.”

President Jonathan also disclosed that he would be attending the United Nations General Assembly summit on Global Terrorism which other world leaders would attend.

The President thanked the Senate and the entire National Assembly for their statement and joining the government in this regard, promising to bring it to an end.

Meanwhile, Wednesday, September 17, 2014 was a tough day for terrorists in the battle for North East Nigeria.

Boko Haram fighters in a revenge attack on Kondunga, about 70 kilometres to Maiduguri, lost a leader and sixty of their members as Nigerian troops gave them a fierce fight.

Nigerian troops reportedly captured a “a high ranking terrorists’ leader”, who remains unnamed, was seriously wounded and is currently being treated in a military medical facility, according to military sources.

This would be the second attack on Kondunga staged by Boko Haram in recent days.
