West African Idol Singer, Eric Arubayi, Dies After Taking ‘Fake’ Malaria Drug

Must read

Eric Arubayi, a Nigerian gospel singer and the 3rd runner up of West African Idol, died on Saturday, February 11, 2017.

His passing was confirmed to The Trent by fellow West African Idol Alumnus, Timi Dakolo, who won the reality TV contest in 2007.

Arubayi was a popular worship leader at the House on the Rock Church and performed at many gospel events around the country. He launched his debut album, Redefined in 2011. The album featured stars like Jesse Jagz. He is popularly known for hits like I Go Make Am, Mr DJ, One Love, One Voice, and Everything. He was also an interior decorator.

“I hate to lose anybody. There’s no happy man like Eric,” Pastor Paul Adefarasin, the senior pastor of House on The Rock Church in Lagos, is quoted as saying on Sunday.

“Eric is with God now. Eric cannot be resurrected, he is not coming back. He’s dead…with the Lord but he’s happy. We mourn because we miss him but Eric is in a good place now.”

Eric Arubayi, who was married with a child, reportedly took ill and bought a malaria drug and took it.

Unfortunately, the drug was expired and led to a kidney failure. He was rushed to the Delta State University Teaching Hospital, where he went into a coma and died a few days later.

This detail was published on Twitter by Jude ‘Feranmi, the youth leader of KOWA Party.

There have been reactions to this news.

The late gospel singer was the son of Professor Eric and Diana Arubayi. His father Prof. Eric Arubayi was the vice chancellor of Delta State University, and his childhood was spent in the town of Abraka, where he grew up with his three siblings – Erica, Derrick and Daniel.

Eric Arubayi married makeup artist, vlogger, and model, Chinonso in December 2013 in their home state of Delta. They had a son, Jaden.

We have tried rejecting this news since yesterday, waiting & HOPING for you to just wake up from this deep SLEEP so you may continue with your LIFE’s journey , but waking up this MORNING to find out our close FRIENDS have waited all night for you to ARISE but you OBVIOUSLY prefer the OTHER side to this MADNESS we call Earth . Eric it’s just been 10yrs friendship, dating back the day Yourself ,Timi , Omawunmi and other walked into our little Maryland OUCHlet after the white West African Idols Toyota bus dropped you guys off at mine for STYLING. since then we have all chased our hustle , The distractions were much to do other Genres of MUSIC but you said you just wanted to WORSHIP God with your music. We progressed from Bachelorhood and became husband and then FATHERS. Eric you need to see the way Jayden looks at my daughter Ophelia whenever Nonso your beautiful and pleasant wife brings him over to our house. Eric it was only you who kept reminding and HARASSING me that I can’t let my musical gift just slide and which we always laughed over it, Eric I still remember late 2015 when you called me up on stage to do a song along with you…So we won’t share such moment again? ??? ? we never had the opportunity to have that PHOTOSHOOT for OUCH…would I easily forgive myself for been too busy to make that happen? Journey well my brother and FRIEND. But wait…Would MALARIA have snatched Eric from us at such a young Age in a Delta-state Hospital if PUBLIC officials didn’t STEAL the monies, but had JUDICIOUSLY used such funds provided to make available BASIC and GOOD MEDICARE in that state for that purpose? #EnoughIsEnough #GiceUsGoodGovernance #medicare #hospitals #Water #light #roads #
