10 Tips On How To Stop Being Shy Around Guys

Must read

It’s a sad truth that we weren’t all born confident. Many of us, in fact, need to work, and work hard, to develop the confidence that can make our lives so much easier. Things are usually made tougher by the fact that you get labelled as shy early on, and overcoming this shyness becomes a really strenuous task, especially when the opposite sex is involved, right? Here are ten ways you can help yourself become less shy around guys.

1. Challenge yourself

Our first tip on how to stop being shy is to never stop challenging yourself. If you’ve been shy all your life, you probably have difficulty communicating openly with people or, at least, guys. One way of dealing with this is challenging yourself with small things. Force yourself to say “Hi” to that sweet neighbour. Go on a karaoke night out with your girlfriends. Take small steps but never stop challenging yourself.

2. Brighten up

Brightening up is another great tip on how to stop being shy. That means smiling more often but also dressing in brighter colours. It’s amazing what your choice of clothes can do for your confidence. Of course, if you don’t like purple, don’t wear it, but there simply must be a colour outside the brown-gray-black palette that you like. Wear it and see how you feel.

3. Blushing is charming

There’s hardly a shy girl who doesn’t get annoyed and frustrated when she blushes. But guys don’t always see things the same way. They are as a rule flattered by the attention and many of them will find your pink cheeks simply adorable. Trust us on this and don’t hide your face.

4. You ARE interesting

What shy people have a problem with is that they don’t really consider themselves interesting enough to merit a conversation. But you must have met more than enough people who are full of confidence to the brim and they are, in fact, boring to tears. You’re not like them, are you? You have interests, you have thoughts and dreams. Don’t be afraid to share them because…

5. …guys are not aliens!

You may be certain that the guy you have the hots for would never ever be interested in the same things as you. Chances are you’re wrong but there’s only one way to find out and that’s talking to him. And even if it does turn out that you have nothing in common you’ll know that you’re not meant for each other.

6. Guys don’t bite

If you’re shy, you’re probably living in constant fear of rejection and ridicule. To be honest, girls are more likely to ridicule another girl. Guys are not really that mean, at least to girls. Of course, this is not a universal rule but if you know the guy you’re interested in well enough and you know he’d like to make fun of you, what are you doing daydreaming about him? He’s just not worth it! If you don’t know him, you can safely bet on a nice surprise, when you gather the courage to approach him.

7. Don’t compromise with yourself

Next tip on how to stop being shy around guys is to avoid compromising with yourself. Sacrificing your own style for conformity’s sake is the path of the least resistance. It is also the path of the least results, when trying to overcome your shyness around men. If you’re not into sports, don’t pretend just to be accepted by the guy you’ve set your eyes on. Good men, and that means men worthy of your attention, don’t like a woman who can only say “Yes”. They like women they can respect.

8. Keep fit

Keeping fit and looking after yourself is another great tip on how to stop being shy. The way you see yourself physically has a direct and powerful effect on how you feel, and you know this. Work on improving your self-image, don’t just accept that you’re hopeless, because you think it’s true. Of course, you’re not hopeless! You’re probably the most beautiful person some guy has ever seen but he’s too shy to tell you.

9. Guys are shy too

Another thing that can help you become less shy and more confident is to know that guys often get shy too. Yep, that’s right! Shyness is not exclusive to girls. You will actually be surprised, if you knew how many guys are just as shy as you are. You see, they have stereotypes to conform to as well, you’re not the only one feeling pressured by demands on your looks and your attitudes. With this in mind, you should feel at least a tiny bit more confident

10. Persevere

Shaking off that shyness is a long and difficult process, you can’t switch from a little mouse to a lion overnight. But don’t give up because there’s a whole new world awaiting you, when you get out of your shell! There will be occasional stumbles, someone might hurt you, but even the most confident among us get hurt sometimes. Hurt is part of life, but it’s a small part, if you’re not afraid to use the opportunities that life offers you. Go chat up that guy you’ve been ogling for, like, months.
