Aba Shut Down As Pro-Biafra Protests Continue (PHOTOS – VIDEO)

The commercial town of Aba, Abia State was completely shut down as protesters seeking the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Director of Radio Biafra took to the streets in continuation of protests that have swept through the South East and parts of the South South.

According to eye witness reports, thousands pf people took to the streets carrying placards, Biafran flags and wearing shirts and caps with Kanu’s pictures and the Biafran flag while others sang freedom songs and displayed the Biafran Pound.

The popular Ariaria market, one of the busiest commercial hubs was a shadow of itself as over 80% of the shops were under lock and key as traders joined in the protest.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters IPOB’s coordinator in Abia State, Ikechukwu Ugwuoha told the crowd: “Getting our leader out of detention is our immediate concern, but ultimately we want to be free from Nigeria.”

Asides the major markets, many schools in the town were also shut owing to the protests.
