Amaechi Came To Rivers With Fanfare, Ran Away In Shame – Governor Wike

Must read

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State on Tuesday, March 22, 2015 noted that Nigeria’s minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi arrived the state with a lot of fanfare ahead of the legislative rerun elections of Saturday, but ended up leaving the state in disgrace.

While addressing members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who visited him at the government house in Port Harcourt, Wike said that Amaechi came with a grand scheme to rig the elections with the use of military apparatuses, but failed woefully at his mission.

Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State is a bitter political rival to Governor Wike who was his one-time chief of staff when he was governor. Wike went on to become a minister under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Wike absolved President Muhammadu Buhari of direct involvement in the illegalities that occurred in Rivers over the weekend. He said that Buhari is a man who believes in “one man, one vote”.

“Amaechi’s plot to rig the rerun election was for him to rubbish the supreme court judgment. He came back to the state noisily, but left quietly and shamefully.

“No army is stronger than the people. No police is stronger than our people. How many times will they cancel elections for the APC? Amaechi is not on ground in Rivers state.

“Those who were overzealous during the rerun election did so without the knowledge of the president,” Wike maintained.

Wike accused Amaechi of influencing the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to go beyond its powers and cancelling elections of which results had already been declared.

He called on INEC to remain neutral and avoid actions that could cause crisis in the state.
