Umar Ibrahim, a supervisory councillor for Agriculture in Mafia Local Government Area of Borno State and four others have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for allegedly stealing about 300 bags of rice which were donated by Danish Refugee Council to the Internally Displaced Person within the council.

Mr. Wilson Uuwjaren, the spokesperson of the agency confirmed the arrest, while explaining that the suspects were nabbed based on an intelligent report.

The other suspects include Bulama Ali Zangebe, Mody Bulama, Halilu Abdullahi and Abacha Ali, some of which have disclosed, according to Daily Post, that the Caretaker Chairman of Mafa Local Government, Shettima Maina, allegedly charged that the bags of rice be sold to Alhaji Lawan Ibrahim of Bolori Stores and Yumar Salisu at the rate of N8,500 per bag.

Roberto DaSilva, an assistant executive director, WFP, had earlier urged the EFCC to ensure sincerity and liability in the pay-out of funds and the purchase of food items to the North-East.

According to the report, Maina and two other suspects still have not been apprehended.

The management of relief materials for camps set up for people displaced by the Islamist terrorist group, Boko Haram has been fraught with corruption since the inception of the Muhammadu Buhari government.

Top government functionaries in the presidency like Babachir Lawal, the secretary to the government of the federation, have been named in scandalous contracts to the tune of over N200,000,000.

Relatives of President Muhammadu Buhari have also been named in corrupt dealings in the name of supplying food and consumable to internally displaced Nigerians in the IDP camps.
