The Rivers State government has debunked allegations by Magnus Abe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in which he alluded to a “business relationship” between Governor Nyesom Wike and an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the state.
In a statement signed by the state’s commissioner for information, Austin Tam-George on Monday, July 4, 2016, the Rivers government dismissed Senator Abe’s allegations as a “grotesque fabrication” and “part of an intricate web of propaganda and deception of the APC”.
Dr. Tam-George emphasised that at no time in the past or the president has Governor Wike had any kind of business dealing with any INEC official and said that Senator Abe started the campaign of calumny and vilification against Wike because he fears defeat in the legislative rerun elections coming up in Rivers on July 30, 2016.
“Faced with his imminent defeat in the forthcoming legislative rerun polls in Rivers State, in July 2016, Senator Magnus Abe has started a campaign of calumny and vilification against Governor Nyesom Wike and INEC officials in Rivers State,” the statement, which was delivered to The Trent, said.
“Senator ABE’s latest allegation that governor Wike had a previous business relationship with the current INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State is a grotesque fabrication.
“Governor Wike categorically denies any form of business association with any INEC officials, in the past or at present.
“Like all Nigerians, the people of Rivers State have seen through the intricate web of propaganda and deception of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Senator Abe will be a casualty of his own falsehood and desperation on election day in July, as the people pass their judgement,” Tam-George concluded.
