Assault On Female Lawmaker: Nigerian Prisons Boss Summoned To House Of Reps

Must read

For watching his aide assaulting a member of the House of Representatives unchallenged in the premises of the National Assembly, the job of the comptroller general of the Nigeria Prison Service, Peter Ekpendu, is hanging on the line.

The angry members of the House of Reps, Thursday, April 22, 2016, invited the comptroller general to appear before the house to explain why he must not be relieved of his job for not cautioning his security details who assaulted Hon. Onyemaechi Mrakpor who is representing Oshimili/Aniocha Federal Constituency of Delta State on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Leo Ogor, minority leader of the House of Assembly said the action of the comptroller general was a breach of Section 16 of the Rules of the House and informed members that the comptroller general must appear before the house to explain why he must not lose his job.

Although Ogor called for fair hearing, leader of the House of Assembly, Femi Gbajiabiamila, said he is not interested in issues of fair hearing as the security detail of the comptroller general is guilty following his action of slapping a lawmaker in the premises of the National Assembly.

It was learn that over 20 cars of the comptroller general’s convoy were lined up in the Assembly Complex and the assembly member was seen as obstructing the movement of the comptroller general’s convoy, hence the security detail alighted from his car, hit the car of Onyemaechi and as soon as she opened her glass to observe what was happening to her car, she was greeted with a slap from one of the aides of the comptroller general.

While all this was happening the comptroller general remained in his car watching without cautioning his security aides.

Onyemaechi cried to the house leader, Gbajaibiamila, who described the action as an assault on women and said the comptroller general must dance to his action against the lawmaker.

The House has summoned the comptroller general to appear before it on Tuesday, April 26, 2016.
