With the news that a man has been in court for allegedly trying to hijack a plane with a Toblerone, we thought we’d take a dive into the weird world of bizarre robberies.

All of these dumb criminals were brought to justice, and most of them got themselves caught in the most hilarious ways possible.

So here’s our top six most bizarre items used in armed robberies:

5. A banana

A Philadelphia man stuffed a rotten banana in his trousers to make it look like he had a gun while robbing a bank.

Lloyd Virgil Barclay, 52, admitted claiming he had a gun while threatening a clerk at KNBT bank, before getting away with $800 in September 2009.

But police didn’t have much trouble finding him.

The bungling bank robber left his wallet at the scene, containing two ID cards and a social security card.

4. Apple Pies

A man was arrested after trying to hold up a Sacramento bank by claiming a bag of apple pies was a bomb.

Daniel Hedwood, 33, demanded cash from the teller at the Wells Fargo bank on Capitol Avenue, claiming his bag had a bomb in it.

After he was picked up in a nearby parking lot, bomb technicians inspected the bag and the only items inside were two apple pies.

3. His girlfriend’s vibrator

Nicki Jex used his girlfriend’s ‘rampant rabbit‘ sex toy to raid a Ladbrokes shop in Leicester in December 2007.

He made off with more than £600 in cash after brandishing the ‘firearm’ towards staff, who assumed it was a gun.

He was picked up after being seen at a nearby pub, where he took the cash and started buying big rounds of drinks.

2. An eight-inch sausage

A California man allegedly broke into a home, stealing $900 and assaulting the householder with an eight-inch long sausage.

Resident Santiago Cabrera told police he was sleeping on the front porch when he ‘felt something hit him in the face.’

As he came to, he found ‘an unknown male bent over him. The man continued to strike him in the face and head area with a sausage.’

Cops later arrested a suspect, but were unable to recover his weapon.

1. A disguise drawn on in permanent marker

A pair of would be burglars were arrested – blind drunk – while trying to rob houses with masks scrawled on their faces in marker pen.

Matthew Allan McNelly, 23 and Joey Lee Miller, 20, left police bewildered with their artful disguises.

One officer described them as “the worst disguise ever.

Local police chief Jeff Calyer told CNN: “We’re very skilled investigators and the black faces gave them right away.
