Must read

President Muhammadu Buhari has backed out of a much anticipated official trip to Ogoniland in Rivers State slated for Thursday, June 2, 2016.

In his place, Nigeria’s Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would represent him at the event which is the official flag off of the Ogoniland cleanup.

Spokesman to the president, Mr. Femi Adesina has confirmed to The Trent, Thursday morning, that Osinbajo would be representing Buhari at the event which is seen as a symbolic show of love for the people of the Niger Delta.

“The trip is not cancelled. The vice president would be representing President Buhari,” Adesina told our reporter.

Adesina did not provide any reason for the president’s decision to back out of the trip.

Ogoniland is the site of one of the world’s most devastating oil spills and has been the flashpoint for protests against the oil major, Shell over its human rights abuses and environmental degradation.
