A member of the British parliament, Harriet Harman has written a petition to the British government seeking to know the details of the continued detention of radio Biafra Director, Nnamdi Kanu.

Harman, who represents Camberwell and Peckham, sought to know why Kanu, who is a British citizen was arrested on Saturday, October 17, 2015.

In the petition titled  “Detention of my constituent Mr. Nnamdi Kanu”, which addressed to Phillip Hammond, the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs and dated Thursday, October 22, 2015, Harman maintained that since Kanu and his Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) movement was non-violent, he should be protected by Article 1 of the United Nations charter.

The petition read: “I understand that Mr Nnamdi Kanu, who I am told is a British citizen and lives at …was arrested on the 17th October 2015 by the Nigerian Department of Security Services (DSS) when arriving in Lagos from the United Kingdom.

“I understand Nnamdi is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) who are agitating for the independence of Nigeria’s former Eastern Region. I’m told that the pro-Biafra group are non-violent and therefore should be afforded protection under Article 1 of the charter of the United Nations.

“I’d be grateful if you could let me know your understanding of what Nnamdi has been arrested for, what he might be charged with, where he has been held and what consular engagement there has been.”

  1. Is this real or fake?I know Britain and the western world loves when other countries are unstable.but if she is asking what Nnamdi did that is really shameful. .With all Nnamdi said and try to make Nigeria unstable, if it was a British citizen doing that, call for for to take up arms,he will be called a terrorist and he will be charged with treason. So what is wrong with her?

  2. Release him because he has the right to peaceful agitations and demand. Nigeria has never meant to be one , it just that lord lugard is not alive to see the mess and disadvantage he had caused by uniting oil and water which is ever incompatible. The people who amalgamated this ZOO called Nigeria gave a total years of 100 and if the people doesn’t want to continue the marriage, then any part has right to cede or separate from Nigeria. Nigeria has expired and due to corruption, atrocities, unguarded acts and reasoning the ZOO refused to acknowledge the agreement made by our almagamators. Lord Lugard made his agreement with the people of last century not us. We have every right to reject any agreement made without our consent. We can’t continue to suffer this criminalized union of dogs and human. Biafra is a right and choice. After 100years and nothing good was achieved… #Breakupisbetter
