Buhari Declares War On South-South Militants, Orders Air Bombing Of Creeks

Nigeria’s Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Adesola Amosu, has ordered air raids on the creeks in Calabar, Cross River State, which commenced on Friday, June 19, 2015.

Daily Trust reports that the directive was issued after a recent wave of attacks on vessels, police station and seafarers by gunmen suspected to be pirates and militants in the Calabar waterways.

Speaking to journalists, the Commander of the 207 Special Mobility Group based in Calabar, Air Commodore Charles Ohwo revealed that in the course of the raid – carried out with M17 gunship helicopters – the air force was able to bomb suspected targets and hideouts from the creeks of Calabar to Bakassi.

He further availed that the raids, which would be continuous will be extended to the creeks in Akwa Ibom.

The raids are to be led by the Air Force in conjunction with the Navy, Army and Police.
