Court Slams N650,000 Bail On Driver For Cheating Car Owner

NAN – A Gudu Upper Area Court on Thursday granted a driver, Nwachukwu Chukwuebuka of Galadimamwa village, Abuja bail of N650,000 for alleged breach of trust and cheating.

The prosecutor, Urom Otu told the court that one Aloysius Igwe of Damangaza village, Abuja reported the incident at the Apo police station on Dec. 23, 2015.

Otu told the court that Igwe had entrusted his Nissan saloon car with registration number FS 908 ABJ, valued at N600,000 for commercial purposes, but the accused had dishonestly converted it to his personal use.

He said that the accused had claimed that the car was stolen.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened section 312 and 322 of the penal code law.

Chukwuebuka, however, pleaded not guilty when the offences were read to him in court.

The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko granted the accused person bail in the sum of N650,000 with one reliable surety who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case till April 5 for hearing.
