A photo of a harsh reality of a testy saltwater crocodile attacking a man on his testicles have gone viral.
Even though the circumstances surrounding the attack are not immediately ascertained but NT News understands Bundaberg Rum may have been involved in the horrific incident after a Darwin woman sent them the photo without any caption.
Local crocodile expert and Crocodylus Park owner, Professor Grahame Webb, said the attack appeared to be real.
He said, “Its head is bent at such an odd angle and it’s such an odd shape, I can’t see why anyone would stuff a crocodile like that.
“I’ve seen photos of crocodiles with people from all over the world and that’s new territory for me.
“They breed them tough in the NT – crocodiles and people.”
Speaking under the condition of anonymity, another crocodile expert said the man’s testicle could be facing serious medical problems.
He said, “The bacteria on a little saltie’s teeth can cause serious infections.
“I’ve seen people with minor bites end up with topical ulcers. Your wedding tackle is not really somewhere you want a topical ulcer.”
The expert also said the incident raised serious questions regarding the treatment of the animal.
“Small crocodiles like that will generally only bite if they’re scared or annoyed, then they’ll go nuts, pardon the pun,” he said.
“If it is a pet, and hopefully it is a pet, because fishing one out of the river is illegal, the owners of it are responsible for its welfare. It’s not behaviour that should be encouraged.
