DSS Raid: Gov. Udom, Security Chiefs Hold Emergency Meeting

Must read

In the aftermath of the raid by Department of State Services (DSS) on the Akwa Ibom Government House, Governor of the State, Emmanuel Udom on Saturday, September 5, 2015 held an emergency meeting with all security chiefs in the state.

According to Punch, the meeting which started around 6pm, lasted for two hours and was presided over by Governor Emmanuel.

According to a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the Governor expressed his displeasure over the conduct of the security operatives during the DSS raid.

The source said, “The governor was not happy over the development. He told the head of the DSS in the state that there was no way such invasion should have taken place without his knowledge.”

Another top government official who preferred not to be named debunked reports that ammunition and a large deposit of dollars were false.

He said, “It was an illegal act and not even a dime was found and no arms and ammunition were found. People can confirm this from the DSS Director, Mr. Ken Chukwura, who led the raid.

“People are free to walk into the DSS office and ask to talk with Ken Chukwura, who led that raid, which is highly condemnable. Not a single dime was found and no arms and ammunition were found.

“So the story that they found these arms and ammunition and cash is nothing but pure lies.”

Attempts to get in touch with the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Aniekan Umana, and the Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ekerette Udoh, were futile as phone calls and text messages were not responded to.
