Fani-Kayode Kicks Against Buhari Including Nigeria In ‘Islamic Military Alliance’ [TWEETS]

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode expressed disapproval of President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to include Nigeria in a coalition of Muslim nations who would be “fighting terrorism in the name of Islam”.

Tuesday, the government of Saudi Arabia announced that it has formed a 34-member ‘Islamic Military Alliance’ which would be, primarily, fighting terrorist group the Islamic State in five countries.

“Saudi Defence Minister Mohammed bin Salman said the new alliance would co-ordinate efforts against extremists in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt and Afghanistan,” BBC reports.

Fani-Kayode, a leading voice for the leading opposition party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed shock and anger over the decision by Buhari to add Nigeria to an Islamic coalition when Nigeria’s constitution says the country is a secular state. In a set of tweets, he questioned if this was the “change” promised by Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the campaigns.

Nigeria joined the Islamic Military Alliances which has been dubbed a “global Sunni military army” despite being a secular state and without the approval of the National Assembly or Council of State.

Nigeria is home to two of the world’s top four most deadly terrorist organisations. Boko Haram being the deadliest, has waged war against the Nigerian people and state killing over 20,000 people since it began its murderous campaign in 2009 in the North Eastern part of the country. The other group top deadliest, the Fulani militia, also known as ‘Fulani Herdsmen’ who are killing minority tribes in Northern Nigeria.

Fani-Kayode served as minister of Aviation under former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He has condemned the “media trials” against leading opposition figures in Nigeria and the strong-arm tactics of Buhari’s government. “This is a government of sadists, run by sadists and for sadists,” he said on Twitter on Tuesday, December 15, 2015.
