BREAKING: Goodluck Jonathan Returns To Nigeria Following Exile Rumours

Must read

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday evening arrived Nigeria after a brief trip outside the country.

Dr. Jonathan arrived the Port Harcourt airport on June 1, 2016 from Cote D’Ivoire where it was rumoured he had relocated to on self exile last week, online newspaper, Signal reports.

According to sources close to the former president, Jonathan is on his way to his hometown, Otuoke in Bayelsa State. The former president was not harassed or subjected to any unusual security checks by security details.

There had been reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was closing in on him and possibly moving to arrest him, forcing him to proceed on self exile to Cote D’Ivoire.

Goodluck Jonathan refuted the reports to The Trent saying that he is not on exile and would return to Nigeria when he was done with his trip outside the country.

‘I’m Not On Exile’ – Goodluck Jonathan

In a text message reply to The Trent late afternoon of Monday, May 23, 2016, Dr. Jonathan acknowledged seeing reports that he had gone on exile and that they were not true.

“Thank you. I have seen the story [of his reported self-exile],” Jonathan wrote. “I’m not on exile and I will never go into exile. I have no need to [seek exile]. This is my second visit to Cote D’Ivoire since leaving office and it is not for official reasons.”

“The story was a wicked act,” the former president concluded.

A source close to the former president confirms that the idea to go on exile has not been discussed in the Jonathan household.
