Must read

No fewer than 26 people were feared dead, with several others injured as terrorists invaded remote villages of Kolori and Ba’ana of Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, Monday.

Damboa is located at the heart of the Sambisa Forest and about 85 kilometres drive from Maiduguri, the state capital that had witnessed series of deadly attacks in recent past.

The attack on the two communities is coming at a time military authorities claimed it had destroyed all camps of insurgents in the North-East area of operations.

Last Friday, insurgents on horses wreaked havoc in two communities in Nganzai Local Government Area of the state, leaving over 60 people dead.

“The insurgents, Monday, rode on horses to remote Kolori and Ba’ana Imam village in Damboa Local Government Area, where they opened fire on villagers, killing no fewer than 26 people,” sources said.

One of the leaders of youth vigilante group in Biu told journalists, on condition of anonymity, that many of the villagers fled to Biuon, Tuesday, a day after the attack.

He said the insurgents reportedly carted away foodstuffs and livestock.

Efforts to get confirmation from Borno State Police Command did not yield result at press time, as a text message sent to the cell phone of the Police Commissioner, Mr. Opadokun Aderemi, failed to elicit response.
