INEC Returning Officer Announces Rivers Rerun Result With A ‘Broken Head’ (PHOTOS)

The vigilance of thousands of Rivers people, led by Governor Nyesom Wike, on Monday, December 12, 2016 prevented policemen attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) from rigging the Rivers rerun elections.

Facts are emerging on how the election results of the Rivers South East and Rivers South West legislative rerun elections of December 10, 2016 were eventually announced by the INEC returning officers in the midst of threats and even physical attacks from security agents.

One of the returning officers announced the results after being manhandled, wounded, and his head bloodied.

The police SARs Personnel led by their controversial commander, Akin Fakorede had raided the collation centre at the Port Harcourt City Council.

Fakorede and his men attacked the collation officer for Emohua local government area, Chukwudi Odekpa, breaking his head.

The SARs officials also manhandled the Emohua local government electoral officer, Mary Tonkoyo.

Meanwhile, they failed as they did not know that the results have been already left in the INEC Toyota Hilux vehicle in the grounds.

The SARS Personnel also destroyed the equipment of the Channels Television live broadcast and beat up the Old GRA divisional police officer.

In the course of fracas they kidnapped the PDP agent, Chinyere Igwe.

Governor Wike had to join the Rivers people keeping watch outside the collation office.

Upon sighting the convoy of Governor Wike, the SARs officers commenced shooting periodically into the air, before leaving the area.

Rivers: Governor Nyesom Wike and the Deputy Governor Ipalibo Banigo marching at the collation centre for the legislative rerun elections on Monday, Dec 12 to confront men of the SARS from stealing electoral results.

However, returning officer Prof Onu Ekumankama announcing the outcome for Rivers East Senatorial district announced that PDP’s Senator George Sekibo scored 98,098 votes to defeat Andrew Uchendu of the APC who received 34, 193 votes.
