Verona striker, Luca Toni has announced he will retire at the end of the season.
The Italian legend was joint highest goalscorer in the Serie A last season alongside Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi with 22 Serie A goals.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, the 38-year-old stated he believed it was the right time to hang his boots. He also shared his wish of ensuring Verona survives relegation as a parting gift.
“I think the time has come to stop.
“I hope to celebrate it by keeping Verona safe in Serie A,” Toni explained.
The nomadic striker has featured for numerous clubs during his thrilling career. Such clubs include: Modena, going through Empoli, Fiorenzuola, Lodigiani, Treviso, Vicenza, Brescia, Palermo, Fiorentina, Bayern Munich, Roma, Genoa, Juventus and Al-Nasr.
The player who has been with Verona since 2013 won the world cup with the Italian national side in 2006. He also won the Golden boot award for being the top goalscorer in European clubs.
