‘Jafaru Isa’s Arrest Was Stage-managed By EFCC To Deceive Nigerians’

Must read

The Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the  Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested associate of President Muhammadu Buhari,  Colonel Jaffar Isa (rtd), to give the anti-graft war an undeserving credibility.

The party insisted that the manner of the release after being quizzed by the commission over his involvement in the alleged $2.1 billion arms deal gave a strong suspicion that the arrest was a smokescreen meant to delude the Nigerian populace.

The party noted that the case of Isa, a former military administrator of Kaduna State, whom the anti-graft said was released after repaying N100 million out of the money collected from the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuki, was concocted by the EFCC.

The PDP in a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo, in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, said the EFCC and the federal government only concocted the Isa story as a cover-up because of the credibility problem that the anti-corruption war was suffering because it was obviously targeted against only members of the opposition party.

It accused the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government of deliberately deceiving the whole world with the drama of the arrest, release and refund of the money Isa allegedly collected from Dasuki.

“The whole thing was like a drama from Nollywood where you can see the end of a film from the beginning. The arrest, purported refund of N100 million by Isa and his eventual release was a charade taken too far.

“The EFCC and the FG should explain to the world what was the money collected by Isa meant for as was done to other cases since the beginning of the indiscriminate arrest and perpetual detention of the PDP members in the same category,” he said.

He added that it had become a moral burden for the EFCC to tell the world what the retired colonel said he collected the money for, as the anti-graft body used to do in matters concerning PDP members.

Adebayo added that the EFCC should let the world know the balance that Isa would still refund and why he was not charged to court.

According to him, the anti-corruption war of Buhari was only aimed at PDP and opposition members, adding that the rule of law must not be trampled upon in the so-called war against corruption.
