Our attention has been drawn to a controversial bill making its way through the Nigerian National Assembly, aimed at gagging Nigerian citizens and threatening them with a heavy fine or a two-years imprisonment or both. The bill reminiscent of the obnoxious decree number 4, promulgated during the 18 months dictatorial regime of the current president Muhammadu Buhari, is authored by Senator Ibn Na’Allah (Kebbi), of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The bill reads: “Where any person through text message, tweets, WhatsApp or through any social media post any abusive statement knowing same to be false with intent to set the public against any person and group of persons, an institution of government or such other bodies established by law shall be guilty of an offence and upon conviction, shall be liable to an imprisonment for two years or a fine of N2,000,000.00 or both fine and imprisonment.”

Cognizant of the injurious and terror inducing impact the bill may have on Nigerian citizens, particularly Diaspora Nigerians, an emergency meeting of the board of trustees of the US Headquartered Diaspora Nigeria Nationals Network (DNNN) was convened on December 4, 2015 and following a lengthy deliberation and consultation with our attorneys, took the following decisions:

  • Demand that the President of Nigeria’s Senate Mr Bukola Saraki kill this idiotic bill immediately, or compel us to begin a process of including all senators that vote for this bill, their families and relevant associates on the international-no-fly list, as they could constitute danger to the freedoms and lives of Nigerians including those beyond Nigeria’s borders whose views they find offensive.
  • Request meetings with the US Secretaries of State Mr. John Kerry and Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, to present our petition accordingly and initiate the above sanctioning process against the targeted law makers, their families and relevant associates.

Enough of the foolishness!

  1. The nigeria senators have no shame, instead of making bills to build good roads, builds hospital and equipped them ,reduces unemployment to zero level they embarked on useless bill because they are afraid of receiving challenges from the Nigerian masses,we are going to confront them squarely,we will tell the whole world to hates them,we will also uses any means to attack them one by one till they understand what they are doing is bad, foolish people

  2. The Nigerian senators supporting this bill as well as those keeping silent about this bill are pathetic losers. They are not fit to be law makers.

One thing is obvious, the Nigerian senators have forgotten that power truly belongs to the people. They are only there as long as the people allow it. This appears to be the straw that has broken the camel’s back, and has exposed the nakedness and foolishness of the Nigerian senators, especially the senate president. These are morally bankrupt, empty headed pretenders who are not fit to make laws for a school playground.

If they don’t abandon this social media bill rubbish they and their families will go down. Nigerians at home and abroad are tired of this bullshit.

  3. Since they are over payed for doing nothing they hav decided to start doing something, they should go ahead with there useless bill nd get barred from traveling. Useless senators.

  4. Again, this set of Nigeria sitting in the comfort of America Government are on the prawn of downgrading the Nigeria State. Instead of expressing their position with justifications on why this bill should not go through they are campainging for America to press sections on us. Let not forget thatvwe are an independent country subject to her rules and constitutional obligations. We atr but not outside global influence not to the extent allowing other country to make laws for us. Americak as u know don’t invest in where day do not have economic interest…what has come up of IRAN, IRAK, and several others……..please u have a point for your position do send a communique to justify your position

    • U’re not making sense at all…do Ur zoo nation listens to it’s people; the only weapons the people have; are the western nations…to hit the bastards where it hurts…how can they adopt such a vague law to undermine the authority of the people; we’re not slaves and we must trade our rights to idiots congregating in aso rock with bad intensions; once bribed; they behaves like goats.

    • Rabiu, I guess you’re not living in this Nation or that you’ve not been following the progress of this repressive media law. Were you not aware that the bill has passed the second reading? Are you not aware that Sen Dino Melaye & Sen Bukola Saraki swore two (2) days ago to resist & not yield to any intimidation, threat nor reactions from the public against the passage of this bill hence will resist every opposition or influence to drop the bill? If you know these, why your statement “Instead of expressing their position with justifications on why this bill should not go through”? People who have sworn & made up their mind not yield to local pressure to drop the bill, how then do you think that local “position with justification” will not fall on deaf ears? If international intervention will put these unserious men in the senate to caution ⚠, then let it be.

If Nigeria is really independent, they should not seek foreign help for some of its internal problems. Nigeria is a signatory to many international charter bounding on human right and must shape its internal laws as guided by the stipulations under these charters. To these, no Nation infringes on it’s citizens right against the provisions of these charters which Nigeria is signatory to. To these, seeking intervention from U.S isn’t an aberration but under the rights of Nigerian citizens to seek justice in every viable mean available especially when local interventions has proved abortive. I guess I’ve been able to highlight & sharpen your grey areas as it concerns international rights & privileges of our citizens.

    • Since they are too stupid. Guys please they need to be guided. If they impose NO TALK ZONE on us please impose NO FLY ZONE on them. Do not forget to add NO FOREIGN ACCOUNT ZONE. Freeze all their foreign accounts as that will also be treat to the rest of the world.

No need for dialog… Match every stupid step of theirs with suitable sanction

  6. It is a great shame that after what the last senate did to pass the freedom of information bill and the subsequent assent on this bill by the former president ,Buhari and his men want to destroy this law.Tyrant is always a tyrant:

  7. Majority of Senators in the present Nigerian Senate are are only interested in enriching themselves to the detriment of the masses they represent and as such, an objective Nigerian who see them as economic diarrhoea on the economy will conclude that on mere delivery of Ghana-must-go bag full of US Dollars on their door step by officials of the Presidency, they will greedily support any obnoxious, oppressive and suppressive Bill from the President even if such a bill will lead to the extermination of members of their immediate families. Nigerians should rise against the constructive reintroduction of Buhari/Idiagbon Decree 4 that censored freedom of speech and expression by the APC dominated Senate .

  8. I think am seeing the need for this Biafran agitation. They are quite tired of zoological standard, where animals dnt talk, can be trampled on and been fed when ever the superior wnats. Rubbish law

  9. The senator that first raise the bill is simply a big fool in the first place. This is why we are clamouring for properly educated people to go into politics instead of some religious bigots and enthnic fanatics. We Nigerians will fight them hands down on this issue. If this is what will make us take to the streets we will do. Enough of this stupid and silly behavours from some of these so called looters.

  10. any man that run away from his responsibility is a coward , if Senate house like let them kill us all in Nigeria but social media for life , I think any senator will stay in Abuja without coming back to his constituency useless people we will going to fuk up all for December period at village , we waiting for u people no sense, animals , ur children will come back from over sea to join us here in Nigeria

  11. The said bill is simply dead on arrival, it cannot stand the test of time not in this scientific evolutionary era and of-course what do one expect from these bunch of lunatics cum political bankrupt shenanigans who had resorted to parading and conceiving themselves as colossus in the name of leaders operating in the corridors of powers of whose sole aims are simply geared towards selfish aggrandizement devoid of any commonsense. the senators are sent to the hallowed chamber by various constituencies to push bills that offer hope to the common man on the streets and not to initiate satanic, occultic, useless, draconian and good for nothing bill that can only bring more sufferings to the people. Gej gave us FOI and now PMB want to reverse it, haba! this is sheer wickedness and democratic dictatorship synanimous to military regme. anyone i thank God that the untowards reactions being generated daily on the said draconian bill by the entire nigerians is sufficiently enough to make them bury their faces in shame. shameless HE-goats and bunch of illiterates. that bill which will restrict me from saying my view or stampede me from enjoying my fundamental right of speech and expression in this 21st century is unrealistic and simply does not exist.

  12. Enough of these charade by the National Assembly of Nigeria. It very obvious with the social media bill been proposed now that they are all there to pass laws the will protect the public from checking their atrocities. Saraki, a fraud of the highest order spearheading this bill has cases of corruption hanging on his neck is planning to shield people from further exposing him because there are so many frauds committed by him that are yet to be exposed. The Ibna Allah, the useless one that cannot buy himself a decent suit among despite the millions of Naira collected for wardrobe. By this act, they will know soon that power belong to the people.

  13. The greatest abuse of law is when abusers of law are entrusted with law making. Lack of political ideology and national focus are parts of the root causes of Nigeria’s political mess. Hmmmmmmmmmmm! God save Nigeria.
    #toongyspeaks.

  14. Nigerians should brace up for the worst. We asked for the change. I don’t know why Nigerans have very short memory. Have u forgotten dat it was d same social media APC used to bring down ex-president GEJ and his govt. ? Let them cage us just for a moment, 2019 is around the corner. CHEER UP !!!

  15. Recall Haman’s pride, joy and secret devise gallows against Mordecai and the people of God in the Holy Bible in the book of Esther, the same was used to hang him in the later part of his life. Let those blind leaders sponsor and sign the bill against the masses that voted them into power; the same bill will work against them sooner or later like Haman’s plot.
