It’s been a whirlwid award season for Lupita Nyong’o, and an emergence as a fashion icon.
The Mexican born Kenyan actress won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “12 Years a Slave.”
The 31-year-old, who made an indelible impression with her harrowing performance as a tortured slave Patsey, gave an emotional and inspiring acceptance speech as she picked up her Oscar.
“When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every child, no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid,” she said.
Her performance in 12 Years a Slave happens to be her first ever film role, and she nailed it.
