Atiku: Nigerians Will Know The Truth – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike
Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says he will soon break his silence on the recent happenings in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Kelvin Ebiri, his Special Assistant on Media, made this known in a statement on Saturday, July 23, 2022, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The governor stated that it has become pertinent for him to speak and reveal to Nigerians all that has transpired in the PDP since the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of the main opposition party.

“On Atiku, I will speak soon, and Nigerians will know the actual truth of all that has transpired in the PDP in recent times,” he was quoted to have said in the statement.

Governor Wike had gone under the radar as it relates to the PDP affairs since he lost the party’s presidential ticket to former Vice President Atiku.

In the party’s presidential primary held in May, Atiku polled 371 votes to emerge as the PDP’s flagbearer ahead of Wike who scored 237 votes to come second in the contest.

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki (70); Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel (38), Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed (38), Former Senate President Pius Anyim (14), Mrs Tari Diana Oliver (One), and Mr Sam Ohuabunwa (1) shared the remainder of the valid votes.

Following weeks after the primary held, the PDP presidential candidate named Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate in the forthcoming election.

This, however, led to a disagreement among party stakeholders as some commended the choice of Okowa while others rejected it, saying Atiku should have picked Wike who was the runner-up in the primary in the stead of his Delta counterpart.

In a bid to address the perceived grievances of the governor,  the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the PDP set up a reconciliatory committee to meet with Wike of Rivers State over the fallout of the party’s presidential primary and crisis trailing the nomination of a running mate.

6 Lies Atiku Told In His Recent Interview – Tinubu Lambasts PDP Candidate [FULL STATEMENT]

Bola Tinubu
Bola Tinubu, APC presidential candidate

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential candidate, has accused his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart, Atiku Abubakar of lying in his recent interview.

Daily Post recalls that Atiku, former Nigerian Vice President who was featured on Arise TV on Friday, July 22, 2022, spoke on several issues bedeviling the nation particularly in regards to the forthcoming presidential elections.

Atiku had during the TV programme, alleged that he declined Tinubu’s move to be his running mate in 2007 over the same faith ticket.

He asserted that when he got the presidential ticket of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in 2007, Tinubu, one of the founders of the party, insisted to be his running mate but he declined in a bid to avoid having a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Atiku further opined that his stand against the Muslim-Muslim ticket formed the fundamental disagreement between him and Asiwaju from 2007 till date.

However, a statement issued on Saturday by the Director, Media & Communication, Tinubu Campaign Organisation, Bayo Onanuga, said Atiku’s response to questions during the interview indicated that he is not ready for the job.

The statement pointed out six areas the PDP candidate allegedly lied.

Full statement reads:

Mr Presidential candidate: Lincoln did not contest US Presidency five or six times, Takeaways from Atiku Abubakar bungled interview on ARISE Television

We have watched Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s interview on ARISE Television and were extremely shocked by the many lies and ignorance displayed by the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate.

“In the interview, Alhaji Atiku exposed himself as a man who is not prepared for the job he is applying for and a man who can not be entrusted with our commonwealth. He was flippant in his response to important questions about his record of service and how he made money while serving in Customs. He muddled up facts and exhibited befuddling absence of mind.

“Here are our takeaways from the bungled interview:

1. PDP candidate is a law breaker: It was most shocking Atiku admitted that he cheated the system for decades and engaged in gross misconduct as a government worker. As a customs officer at the Idi-Iroko border, Atiku revealed that he ran a commercial taxi service, claiming ‘there is no law stopping public officers from doing business in Nigeria”. He punched harder, claiming there is no conflict of interest in doing so.

We found this to be untrue.

Every officer in the civil service is expected to comply with a code of conduct and service rules which bar civil and public servants from engaging in private business while in government employment to the detriment of the service he/she is employed to render to the public. The 1999 constitution further codifies this in Part I, Fifth Schedule, Section of 2 (b).

It says a public officer shall not, except where he is not employed on full-time basis engage or participate in the management or running of any private business, profession or trade. The rules however allow a public officer to engage in farming.

We wonder which rule or which law Atiku was relying upon for his gross misconduct as a public officer. It is our considered view that Atiku gamed the system all through his career in public service, culminating in his founding of the Intel Logistics along with Late Shehu Yar’Adua and some Italians, even while he was still in the employment of the Nigeria Customs Service.

2. Poor Knowledge of key sectors of the economy: We also found it surprising that the PDP presidential candidate does not know the contribution of the oil and gas industry to Nigeria’s GDP. He claimed the sector represents 20% of our national GDP whereas it is below 10 percent and it is still falling owing to the growth of the non-oil sector under the current All Progressives Congress-led administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

3. False Data from Egypt: Atiku Abubakar wanted to impress his audience with his supposed knowledge of international affairs. He ended up embarrassing himself with false data he cited from Egypt. We found his claim that Egypt has 2 million police officers on the streets to be untrue. Various sources put the number at about 500,000 for a population of 104 million and not 80 million as falsely claimed by Atiku.

4. Rotational Presidency: Asked to justify why the PDP jettisoned Section 3c of its own constitution which enshrines power rotation between the North and South, Atiku tried to fudge his answer by focussing on Governor Nyesom Wike and his effort to reconcile with him after he, a northerner snatched the presidential ticket that ought to have been taken by a southerner. While Atiku was playing to the gallery on APC’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, he didn’t see seeking to be President after 8years of a President from his part of Nigeria as politics of exclusion.

Probed further, Atiku provided several contradictory answers. In one breath, he said power rotation is not in the constitution. In another breath, he said the PDP has never “micro zoned any position’. Then he admitted that the party has always rotated power between the North and the South. Atiku’s justification as to why he became PDP’s presidential candidate, instead of a southerner is a perfect example in ellipsis: “In politics”, he said, “we negotiate power through negotiations(Sic)”. Whatever that means.

Atiku, ever an expert in not telling the truth also did not come clean over his once-upon a time preference for same-faith ticket. In 1993, after Atiku and Kingibe lost to MKO Abiola in the SDP presidential primary in Jos, Atiku was the choice of the Yar’Adua camp to become Abiola’s running mate. Abiola overlooked him and picked the more cerebral diplomat and bureaucrat, Babagana Kingibe. In all the tonnes of biographies written about him, there was no where he said he opposed Shehu Yar’Adua’s support for his candidacy as Abiola’s VP. He was not against it, since it favoured him. Now, it is politically convenient and opportunistic for him to oppose the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.

5. Political Credentials: Most reprehensible was Atiku’s lies about how many times he ran to become the governor of Adamawa or old Gongola state.

Mr. Presidential candidate, in case you don’t know due to your limited education, you run for an office, only, when you are on the ballot in an election. Your signifying interest in an office does not mean the same as running for the office. From available records, the first time you contested the governorship election in your state was in 1999. Your name entered the ballot for the first time and you won.

6. Poor grasp of history: Atiku Abubakar also exhibited poor Knowledge of history when he claimed that Abraham Lincoln, one of America’s famous leaders, contested the presidency five to six times before he eventually won.

This is a beer parlour tale that has been recycled over time. Lincoln contested the U.S. presidency twice. He ran in 1860 and 1864 and won both, before he was assassinated on 15 April, 1865.

The false story about Lincoln’s failed presidential bids sprang from his previous failed state and national elections, from his state of Illinois. They were not the same as America’s presidential election.

According to historians, Lincoln lost his first election in 1832 for Illinois state legislature. In 1834, he ran again and won.

In 1843 he ran for Congress. He lost. Three years later in 1846, Lincoln ran for Congress again – this time he won and went to Washington. From established history, in 1848, Lincoln ran for re-election to Congress and lost. In 1854, he ran for Senate of the United States. He lost. Lincoln also made another failed bid for the U.S. Senate from Illinois in 1858. He lost to Democrat Steven Douglas.

Our conclusion is that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is ill-prepared to be President of Nigeria if he could bungle a Television interview that was planned well ahead of the day and time the duo of Dr. Reuben Abati and Ms.Tundun Abiola conducted it.

We expected the PDP presidential candidate to be well informed on any issue before coming on national television to expose himself to avoidable ridicule.

‘I became President by accident’ – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Saturday, July 23, 2022, said everything about him, including his emergence as both a military Head of State and President of Nigeria, was by accident.

Obasanjo, who was an ex-military Head of State before he was elected as a civilian President in 1999, said he was a farmer by choice and not by accident.

Speaking on Saturday, July 23, 2022, on a live radio interview with Segun Odegbami on Eagles7 Sports 103.7 FM, Abeokuta, Obasanjo said he was always proud to be addressed as a farmer.

Odegbami had asked Obasanjo to speak about what he termed his “romance with farming.”

In response, the former president said, “I don’t like the word you used, ‘romance with farming’. I am a farmer. What do you mean by romance. Everything I have done in my life is by accident. The only thing that is not accidental is farming. Every other thing that I’ve been is by accident. And you called that romance? No! What do you mean by romance?

“You know my beginning. I was born and bred in a village. I went to school by accident. My father just said, ‘won’t you do something different?’ So I went into farming.

“When you look at countries that have made it, they developed on agriculture. First, for the purpose of food security; second, for the purpose of processing what they get from their farms, which is the beginning of industrialisation. Third, to give it out as export, which is for the purpose of foreign exchange; and fourth, as a means of generating employment for the youth.”

Meanwhile, Obasanjo advised Nigerian youths to take over leadership positions right now.

Obasanjo said youths should not allow anyone to address them as leaders of tomorrow, saying the tomorrow may never come.

Obasanjo said some corrupt leaders would destroy the so-called tomorrow if the younger generation failed to rise up and take their future in their hands.

He said, “My advice for Nigerian youths is that, never let anybody tell you that you are the leaders of tomorrow. If you wait for tomorrow before you take over leadership, that tomorrow may not come. They will destroy it.

“This is the time, youths get up and make it happen.”

How Former AGF, Ahmed Idris Allegedly Received N15 Billion To Accelerate Payments To Oil Producing States

Ahmed Idris,
Ahmed Idris, the Accountant General of the Federation

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has ordered that the former Accountant General of the Federation, AGF, Ahmed Idris, and two others be remanded in prison custody pending the determination of their bail applications.

Justice Jadesola Adeyemi-Ajayi gave the order after Idris, Godfrey Olusegun Akindele, Mohammed Kudu Usman and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited pleaded not guilty to a 14-count charge in which they are accused of diverting about N109billion public funds.

In the charge marked: CR/299/2022 Akindele is described as the Technical Assistant to Idris,  Usman is described as a director in the office of the Account General of the Federation, while Gezawa is said to be owned by Idris.

Upon their plea of not guilty, their lawyers – Chris Uche, SAN (for Idris and Gezawa), P. D. Abalaka (for Akindele), and  J.A. Abbah (for Usman) – prayed the court to allow the defendants to remain on the administrative bail earlier granted them by the prosecuting agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The defence lawyers said they have filed bail applications for their clients and urged the court to let the defendants remain on the administrative bail pending the determination of their bail applications.

Lead prosecuting lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) objected, insisting that he needed time to respond to the various bail applications, adding that the administrative bail lapsed immediately the charge was filed.

Jacobs noted that the court would be sending a wrong signal to society should it allow the defendants, who are people of means, to simply walk home after their arraignment, and before the consideration of their bail application.

He urged the court to note the amount involved and the gravity of the alleged offences

Ruling, Justice Adeyemi-Ajayi said the court is not a puppet that dances to public opinion and societal mood, but an institution guided solely by the dictates of the law.

She said it was appropriate to remand the defendants in prison custody pending the determination of their bail applications.

The judge rejected Uche’s request that the defendants be remanded in the custody of the EFCC in view of the recent attack on Kuje prison in Abuja and the condition of the nation’s detention facilities.

Justice Adeyemi-Ajayi noted that despite the unenviable condition of the prisona, they remain the available place to remand defendants for now.

She adjourned till July 27 for the hearing of the defendants’ bail applications. Some counts in the charge read:

*That you, Ahmed Idris between February and December, 2021, being a public servant by virtue of your position as the Accountant General of the Federation accepted from Olusegun Akindele, a gratification in the aggregate sum of N15,136,221,921.46 which sum was converted to the United States dollars by the said Olusegun Akindele and which sum did not form part of your lawful remuneration but as a motive for accelerating the payment of 13per-cent  derivation to the nine (9) oil producing States in the Federation,  through the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 155 of the Penal Code Act Cap 532 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 and punishable under the same section.

*That you, Ahmed Idris while being the Accountant General of the Federation and Godfrey Olusegun Akindele while being the Technical Assistant to the AG-F between February and November, 2021, in such capacity, entrusted with certain property, to wit: N84,390 billion committed criminal breach of trust in respect of the said property, when you dishonestly received the said sum from the Federal Government of Nigeria through Godfrey Olusegun Akindele trading under the name and style of Olusegun Akindele & Co., and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 315 of the Penal Code Act Cap 532 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990.

*That you, Mohammed Kudu Usman while being a director in the office of the Accountant General of the Federation, sometime in 2020 knowingly acquired a private interest in the consultancy contract given to Olusegun Akindele & Co for the payment of the of  13 per-cent derivation to the nine (9) oil producing sates through the office of the AGF and in the office in which you were employed and you thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 12 of the Independent Corrupt and other related offences Commission Act 2000.

INEC Drops Abacha’s Son, Names Wali Kano PDP Governorship Candidate

Independent Electoral Commision, Inec | The Trent

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has pasted the name and credentials of Sadiq Wali as the gubernatorial candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Kano state.

This has led to confusion among members of the party loyal to the state executive led by Shehu Sagagi.

Daily Trust reports that the crisis in the Kano chapter of the opposition party led to parallel primary elections, which produced the sons of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Aminu Wali, and that of late former Head of State, General Sani Abacha.

Professor Riskuwa Shehu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, had told journalists on June 30 that the commission monitored only the primaries conducted by the Shehu Wada Sagagi-led state executive which produced Abacha as its governorship candidate.

But with the list of gubernatorial candidates pasted nationwide on Friday, July 22, 2022, at INEC’s state offices, Wali’s name and that of his deputy, Yusuf Dambatta, were displayed on the wall at Kano INEC office.

Reacting to the development, the INEC Kano state Public Relations Officer, Ahmad Adam Maulud, said the commission at the state level submitted what the outcome of the primary election it monitored to the national headquarters.

He said what was, however, pasted on the wall on Friday was what was sent back from the national headquarters.

“We have sent what we did to our national headquarters and what we pasted today (Friday) came from them directly.

“Whoever wishes to seek any clarification should contact the body of his or her national party for any information.”
